Message from Police & Crime Commissioner

neighbourhood_watch_logoDear Resident,
As your Police and Crime Commissioner I want to work with you to deliver on our shared policing and community safety priorities and to keep West Yorkshire safe and feeling safe into the future.

Since 2010 the government has cut the policing budget at the cost of over 2000 police jobs and although this year I have been able to protect the number of PCSOs and recruit an extra 254 police officers there is still a long way to go to rebuild the numbers here.

Last week the government announced a further cut to the policing and community safety budget of 1.4% and I am therefore having a ‘community conversation’ to find out whether you and people across West Yorkshire would support a slight increase in the police element of the council tax to pay for stronger neighbourhood policing.

I would be grateful if you could spare some time to complete a questionnaire to gather your views and encourage your colleagues, friends and family to do the same.

The questionnaire can be found at the following address:

I want to take your views into account and as budget decisions will need to be made early in the new year I would be very grateful if you could complete this survey by Friday the 20th January 2017.

Best wishes

Mark Burns-Williamson
West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner
